All masterclass content and interactions are on Google Classroom platform. Catterfly art moderators as well as master artists are available for comment and suggestions as needed.

Kerala Mural art, originating from the 8th century, embodies natural beauty, grace, and pious devotion, with each artwork reflecting the deep dedication of its artists. Seen in Kerala's temples and palaces, these murals depict the sagas of ancient Hindu deities. Saju MP, a native artist of Kerala, practices this traditional art form, working on murals in temples and churches across the region.



Pattachitra, the oldest art form of Odisha, is closely tied to the 12th-century cult of Jagannatha worship. Traditional artists from the Maharana (Mohapatra) community create intricate mythological paintings on cloth canvas, known as 'patta' or picture. Catterfly master artist and national awardee Bhaskar Mohapatra, hailing from this hereditary lineage, works on various themes and mediums, preserving many traditional practices, such as not using preliminary drawings with pencil or charcoal. 





Madhubani, an ancient Indian folk art, originates from the times of the Ramayana. Traditionally practiced by women artists in the Mithila region, it depicts mythological tales, rituals, festivals, and local life on floors and walls. It comprises five distinct styles: Bharni, Godna, Tantrik, Gobar, and Kachni.



Miniature painting is a traditional style of painting that involves creating detailed, precise, and intricate artwork on a small scale. It has a rich history spanning many cultures and periods.



Warli painting, an ancient tribal art form, is considered one of India's oldest and finest. Originating from the Warli tribe, who reside in Maharashtra's north Sahyadri range. Sanjay Sangle, a veteran artist, carries forward his family's painting traditions, capturing his community's essence.
 

Kalighat and Santhal paintings, also known as Bangal Pattachitra, represent a traditional and mythological heritage of West Bengal. 
Samir Chitrakar, a native artist, hails from Medinipur and specializes in Kalighat and Santhal art forms, following in the footsteps of his mother, who is also a renowned Kalighat and Santhal artist.

Pichwai, a painting style originating over 400 years ago in Nathdwara near Udaipur, Rajasthan, translates to "shadow paintings." It is believed that during the Mughal Empire's ban on idol worship, devotees painted images on cloth for worship, leading to the emergence of Pichwai as a prominent art form.


Contemporary art, originating in the latter half of the 20th century and continuing into the 21st century, encompasses various mediums such as painting, sculpture, photography, installation, performance, and video art. At Catterfly, we explore various art "isms" with expert contemporary artist Ms. Vipra Karkare, covering techniques from Impasto to Palette Knife painting and subjects ranging from landscapes to portraits.




Catterfly Art and Culture is a social impact initiative focused on supporting native artists of India. We are helping them to adopt digital platforms to teach and sell their artwork as a social outreach program. As a part of this initiative, we continuously try new art forms from native artists such as Kalamkari, Mysore Paintings, Thangka, Phad, and many more.
