About the Workshop

Pichwai painting: Pichwai painting traces its origins back over 400 years to Nathdwara, near Udaipur in Rajasthan, India. These exquisite artworks, crafted on cloth, are renowned for their intricate details and captivating beauty. Pichwai paintings primarily depict various episodes from the life of Lord Krishna, showcasing scenes from his divine journey and mythological narratives.

"Fusion of the Divine: Shiva in a Pichwai Lotus Pond  "This unique artwork represents a fascinating synthesis of traditional Indian art styles, blending a classic Pichwai background with a central figure reminiscent of Rajasthani miniature traditions. Traditionally, Pichwai paintings originate from Nathdwara and are devoted almost exclusively to Lord Krishna, specifically in his manifestation as Shrinathji. The lush, stylized lotus pond depicted in the background is a hallmark motif of Pichwai art, typically used to symbolize the monsoon season or the divine waters of the Yamuna River. Lord Shiva at the center of this vibrant floral expanse creates an unconventional narrative departure from those standard Vaishnavite themes. Shiva is rendered here with delicate features, adorned with a serpent and resting upon a crescent moon, showcasing the refined brushwork characteristic of miniature painting schools.
