Pattachitra, originating in the 12th century Odisha, India, is an ancient art form using 100% natural colours from conch shells and minerals. Chitrakars, the artists, craft intricate paintings on diverse surfaces like cloth, palm leaves, wood, and jewellery. The art narrates Hindu mythological stories, especially around Lord Jagannath and the Vaishnava sect, as well as local folk tales, providing insights into Odia tradition. This painting featuring goddess Laxmi depicts her seated on a throne, signifying her regal status as the queen of wealth and prosperity. With lotus in her two hands symbolising purity, beauty, and spiritual enlightenment while the other hand is extended in the varada mudra, granting blessings to her devotees. Goddess Lakshmi is also adorned with minutely designed jewellery, including a crown, earrings, necklaces, and anklets. The painting also showcases two white elephants situated along her with golden pots overflowing with water, symbolising good luck and prosperity.

Thick black outlines define the forms, adding clarity and definition to the composition. Every element, from her posture and adornments to the surrounding symbols and colour palette, contributes to the creation of a divine image that embodies wealth, prosperity, and divine grace.
