About the workshop
Enjoy the learning Pattachitra painting "Divine Holi with Lord Krishna in Pattachitra" using traditional motifs and techniques with national awardee artist Mr. Bhaskar Mohapatra
Pattachitra is an ancient art form from Odisha, India, dating back to the 12th century. Artists, called Chitrakars, use 100% natural colors from conch shells and minerals to create intricate paintings on various surfaces like cloth, palm leaves, wood, and jewelry. The art depicts Hindu mythological stories, particularly around Lord Jagannath, Vaishnavism, and local folk tales, reflecting Odia tradition. Evolving, Pattachitra adapted to British and European tastes in the 19th century, preserving its rich legacy with vibrant colors and intricate details, offering a captivating visual representation of Odia culture.
Divine Holi with Lord Krishna in Pattachitra: This vibrant traditional painting beautifully depicts Lord Krishna joyfully celebrating Holi with Radha and the gopis in Vrindavan. Krishna is shown in his characteristic blue complexion, holding a musical instrument, symbolizing harmony and divine love. The gopis surround him gracefully, expressing devotion and happiness through dance and playful gestures. The red background enhances the festive atmosphere and represents passion, energy, and celebration. Decorative trees filled with delicate leaves and birds add balance and rhythm to the composition. The intricate patterns on the garments and ornaments reflect the richness of Indian folk art traditions. The pots of colored powder placed near their feet signify the joyous spirit of the Holi festival.
