About the workshop
Enjoy the learning of Pattachitra painting "Tribhangi Krishna in Pattachitra Art " using traditional motifs and techniques with national awardee artist Mr. Bhaskar Mohapatra
Pattachitra is an ancient art form from Odisha, India, dating back to the 12th century. Artists, called Chitrakars, use 100% natural colors from conch shells and minerals to create intricate paintings on various surfaces like cloth, palm leaves, wood, and jewelry. The art depicts Hindu mythological stories, particularly around Lord Jagannath, Vaishnavism, and local folk tales, reflecting Odia tradition. Evolving, Pattachitra adapted to British and European tastes in the 19th century, preserving its rich legacy with vibrant colors and intricate details, offering a captivating visual representation of Odia culture.
Tribhangi Krishna in Pattachitra Art : This Pattachitra painting portrays Lord Krishna in the graceful Tribhangi posture, symbolizing divine beauty, rhythm, and eternal joy. Krishna is shown playing the flute, representing love, harmony, and the call of the divine that attracts all living beings. The large circular red halo behind the figure emphasizes his cosmic presence and spiritual radiance. Bold black outlines, flat planes of color, and intricate ornamental detailing are characteristic features of traditional Pattachitra painting from Odisha. The vibrant use of purple, red, yellow, and white reflects the natural pigment tradition followed by Pattachitra artists. Decorative floral motifs and patterned borders enhance the visual richness and storytelling quality of the artwork.
