About the workshop

Create a beautiful "Celebrating Women’s Roles through Madhubani Art " in Madhubani painting. Learn from our native master artist, Ms. Hema Devi, a national award-winning artist from Bihar. She will teach the techniques and motifs of the art form and help you create a beautiful painting characterized by its bold colours and intricate designs.

Madhubani Painting - Madhubani painting, originating from Bihar, India, is a traditional folk art known for its vibrant colors and intricate patterns. Artists use natural dyes and depict Hindu mythology, nature, and daily life scenes. The paintings often feature bold outlines and geometric shapes, creating a unique and visually striking style. Madhubani art has gained international recognition for its cultural richness and storytelling through vivid visuals.

Celebrating Women’s Roles through Madhubani Art:  The work meticulously details a scene of traditional household work and cooperative domestic life among three women. Characteristically, the composition employs the Madhubani style's vibrant color palette, bold outlines, and intricate geometric and floral patterns. The scene focuses on various stages of grain processing. One figure is seated, utilizing a manual grindstone (known locally as a jaanta) operated with her feet, a demanding and fundamental rural task. A second woman holds a winnowing basket (soop) to clean and separate chaff from the grain. The third, standing figure appears to be engaged in an ancillary task, possibly holding a utensil or pestle related to food preparation. The artwork's densely decorated borders and the inclusion of stylized foliage provide a rich contextual frame. Ultimately, the piece serves as a cultural document, illustrating the daily labor, interdependence, and resilience inherent in the domestic sphere of traditional rural Indian life.
