Traditional Alpana of Lakshmi’s Blessings

About the workshop

Create a beautiful "Traditional Alpana of Lakshmi’s Blessings" in Madhubani painting. Learn from our native master artist, Ms. Hema Devi, a national award-winning artist from Bihar. She will teach the techniques and motifs of the art form and help you create a beautiful painting characterized by its bold colours and intricate designs.

Madhubani Painting - Madhubani painting, originating from Bihar, India, is a traditional folk art known for its vibrant colors and intricate patterns. Artists use natural dyes and depict Hindu mythology, nature, and daily life scenes. The paintings often feature bold outlines and geometric shapes, creating a unique and visually striking style. Madhubani art has gained international recognition for its cultural richness and storytelling through vivid visuals.

Traditional Alpana of Lakshmi’s Blessings: This artwork is a fine example of Madhubani Alpana painting, a traditional ritualistic art form originating from Mithila, Bihar. The design is created with delicate white patterns on a deep red background, symbolizing purity, devotion, and auspiciousness. At the center lies a geometric mandala-like motif, surrounded by repetitive floral and linear patterns that embody harmony and cosmic balance. The tiny footprints (paduka) represent divinity, often associated with Goddess Lakshmi, signifying the presence of blessings in the home. The outer border, adorned with symmetrical motifs in yellow and white, enhances the sacred geometry and gives the composition a festive aura. Traditionally, such Alpana paintings are drawn during religious ceremonies, weddings, and festivals to invoke prosperity and spiritual energy. This piece beautifully blends ritual symbolism with intricate folk artistry, making it both devotional and decorative.
