About the Art & the workshop
Warli Art uses basic geometric shapes to make complex motifs, which are then combined together to illustrate a day in the life scenario. This course focuses on all basic techniques, and motifs of Warli art - human, animals, houses, vegetation, birds, trees, nature, daily objects, musical instruments etc.
The Warli culture is centered on the concept of Mother Nature and elements of nature are often focal points depicted in Warli painting. Farming is their main way of life and a large source of food for the tribe. They greatly respect nature and wildlife for the resources that they provide for life. This painting is a fusion of the life in traditional warli village and and modernisation in village as shown in the centre of the painting.
This Warli painting beautifully captures the rhythm and simplicity of life in a traditional Warli village. At the heart of the composition lies the village community, symbolized through huts, farming activities, and people engaged in daily chores. The central form represents the interconnectedness of human life with land, water, and nature, emphasizing that survival and celebration flow from the same source.
The surrounding landscape of hills, trees, birds, and animals reflects the deep respect Warli people have for nature. Scenes of cultivation, hunting, gathering, and communal work highlight a life based on cooperation and shared responsibility. Dancing figures and ritual activities express joy, gratitude, and spiritual balance, showing how festivals and traditions are woven into everyday life.
Experience the harmony of village life through this vibrant tribute to Warli heritage and the natural world.
