About the Art & the workshop

Warli Art uses basic geometric shapes to make complex motifs, which are then combined together to illustrate a day in the life scenario. This course focuses on all basic techniques, and motifs of Warli art - human, animals, houses, vegetation, birds, trees, nature, daily objects, musical instruments etc.

In this workshop, we will make a beautiful painting " Travel Memories in warli tribe" with our native Warli artist - Mr Sanjay Sangle. In this we will learn an artwork based on the theme of all type of travel Memories. Travel memories have such an intense effect that they remain with us our entire lives.

The painting shows people walking, vehicles, trains, city buildings, trees, and daily activities, symbolizing journeys, migration, and urban–rural life.
Using traditional white figures on an earthy background, the artist captures the rhythm of travel and human connection in classic Warli style

Learning Objectives &Modules of the Workshop

  • Understand the basic elements and storytelling style of Warli art through travel memories.
  • Learn to express personal journeys and experiences using traditional Warli symbols and figures.
  • Appreciate the cultural significance of Warli art while creating narrative-based compositions.

Module details: 
Module 1: Colouring the A2 size paper to brown and make a new type border
Module 2 : Making of railway platform and over bridge
Module 3: Making train and entry gate
Module 4: Making of train bogie and guard's van
Module 5: Making of elements of Railway platform
Module 6: Making of more elements of Railway platform and many human figure and his position
Module 7: Making Different position of passengers with luggages , plants, buildings etc
Module 8: Completing the painting with all the elements


Materials Required


1. A2 sized white papers or 24" "/20" card paper
2. 0.5/0.7 white micron pens. The artist will be doing directly with a Brush & with white acrylic color
3. Rough papers, Pencil, Sharpener and Erasers for drawing a motif and then transferring it on to the final surface.
4. Scale for measurement of the borders and drawing the borders
5. If using Acrylic colors
1. White and other Color as you like
2. 0,00,1,2, 10 No. Brushes
3. Old cloth & Bowl to keep water
ter based - Poster / Fabric / Acrylic etc) and Brushes (0/1/2/10 number)

About the Master Artist

Sanjay Subhash Sangle (lovingly called Sanjay Bhau by his students) is an acclaimed Warli Artist – practicing this art since childhood and his family has been engaged in this for generations. His sphere of work includes traditional Warli designs (Tarpa, Village Scene etc.), outdoor and indoor murals, objects and fabrics and much more in a very nuanced manner.
